Green Mountain K-Cups became a hot item when sales of the Keurig brewer that uses K-cups took off thanks to acceptance by the American consumer. Green Mountain acquired Keurig Incorporated in 2006 and has had double digit sales increases ever since. Of course Green Mountain has been around for years, selling their specialty coffees at special stands usually located within another business like a travel stop or gas station. Think of a Starbucks only for the middle class.
Green Mountain has a total of 60 different K-cups and the list keeps growing. Of course various flavors and blends of coffee are their primary interest but they also have several hot chocolates and teas as an alternative.
Before we get into the various K-cup flavors, it is worthwhile to mention that Green Mountain has the commendable reputation of utilizing fair trade practices. What this means is means is they practice policies that ensure the growers are paid fair prices for their efforts, and that the products were produced with responsible environmental concerns taken into account and there was responsible handling of agricultural chemicals. Also, that the coffee was shade-grown and certified organic. These products are labeled as such.
Now for the good stuff. Of the 60 different K-cups produced by Green Mountain, all have been reviewed by people who have tried the product. Thirteen of the products had less than 10 reviews. The highest number was for the Hot Cocoa K-cup which had 257 reviews but unfortunately had the lowest rating at 2½ stars out of five. The biggest complaint was that it was weak which a little over 100 of the reviewers agreed on.
